Ghostbusters Critics' Round-Up

It's been a long time since anyone's heard from the Ghostbusters, but now everybody's talking about their latest adventure on Xbox 360 and PS3, thanks to Ghostbusters the Video Game.

Across the board, Ghostbusters the Video Game has gained solid praise, averaging around 80% with review aggregators GameRankings and Metacritic. Both Ghostbusters super-fans and gamers looking for a quality experience are enjoying the title, citing its attention to detail and accessible gameplay. IGN shared that Ghostbusters is "a hell of a ride", while TeamXbox offered that it's "an example of how you treat a beloved institution right." Game Revolution calls Ghostbusters "as close as you're going to get to perfection," and by that, they mean for a game based on Ghostbusters. Even Play Magazine thinks "Ghostbusters isn't just a game. It’s a realization of a childhood dream...", though their spirits are dashed by a lack of Bill Murray.

Critical consensus: the game's a hit.

While still generally positive, other reviews like from Tech-Gaming pick on the repetitive play found in the game, while Entertainment Geekly called out the lack of a unique character identity when playing. Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 version do not offer a shared co-op experience, which seems to be rubbing most reviewers the wrong way. GameDaily seemed particularly fond of the online multiplayer, stating "taken as a whole, this unique package of mini-games offer something different from Deathmatch and Capture the Flag."

In the end, Ghostbusters the Video Game seems to resonate as a must-play for any fan of the movies, and something worth checking out if you're more of a casual gamer or fan. It's available now on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, DS and the Wii.
