Platform: Wii
Genre: Racing
Release Date: April 27
Get back on track with the latest version of Nintendo's famous racing game. Mario Kart Wii features a stable of familiar mascots powersliding around a wealth of crazy tracks, using new and classic power-ups to wreak havoc on opposing racers.
Why It's Hot: You could toss Nintendo mascots in a game about mowing lawns and it would sell a million copies. Feature them in the latest entry in the world's most beloved kart racing series and it will sell, well, a lot more than a measly million. In addition to copious amounts of impeccably balanced, drift-crazy gameplay and high-quality delivery, the game comes with packed with its own steering wheel. And did we mention the brand new motorcycles? Nice!
Why It's Not: Don't expect much innovation. Unlike some of Nintendo's other big franchises, the 16 year-old Mario Kart series has undergone as little change as Mario himself. Also, early reports on the "Wii Wheel" have been mixed, and while the game will feature online multiplayer, that means more hours wasted duking it out with Nintendo's curiously unfriendly friend codes.
