Coinciding with the release of the upcoming film, the Iron Man games let players don the man of steel's unbreakable armor to do battle with his nemesis, the Iron Monger.
Why It's Hot: Though games based on films often get a deservedly bad rap, games based on superheroes sometimes work out well (see Spider-Man, Marvel Ultimate Alliance). Sega is taking advantage of Iron Man's flying ability by letting players cruise around open-world environments rather than slashing through linear levels. It's also aiming for authenticity, with lead actor Robert Downey, Jr. signed on to lend his likeness in his first game role ever.
Why It's Not: Re-read the first sentence in "Why It's Hot." Having to finish a game to coincide with a film's release often leads to rushed, sloppy product, and while Sega seems to be handling this one with care, it's a legitimate concern. Iron Man is at least a cool superhero (yeah, we're looking at you, Catwoman), but even a bullet-proof suit might not be able to stop the piercing eyes of snarky game critics ready to throw another merchandising effort into the fire.
