
Despite all that talk about the thrill of competition, the sports genre isn't exactly bubbling over with challengers to the triple-A triple-threat of EA, Activision and 2K Sports. Nintendo and Sony dip their toes into the sporting waters from time to time (Wii Sports is still synonymous with the Wii itself), but for the most part, if you want to play a big name sports title, you're going to look to one of the three heavyweights.
Not that we're complaining. Many sports video games in 2007 finally cashed in on the next-gen powerhouse consoles with graphically luscious, fully-realized versions of classic franchises. No longer a step behind past versions with handicapped modes and missing features, this year's top crop of sports games introduced new ways to play old games. Here are our picks for the best of the best.
