Game of the Year 2007

Best Shooter Game

Best Shooter Game continued...

Bioshock

"Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?" Maybe, maybe not, but Bioshock is certainly entitled to the Best Shooter of 2007 award. Nothing topped this unique shooter-RPG hybrid for atmosphere, compelling storyline and creativity. Who could forget that riveting first battle with a Big Daddy? Or the drawn-out encounter with mad artist Sander Cohen? Or that first glimpse of a passing whale? Where Bioshock succeeded most, though, was the way it combined that depth with good old-fashioned action. Sure, it's a linear game, but by mixing and matching plasmids you could make the encounters play out however you wanted, from high-adrenaline shootouts to stealthy, careful assassinations. You could even play (and do remarkably well) just by belting things with a wrench.
