Bioshock

It was love at first sight. From the moment 2K Boston (formerly Irrational Games) unveiled the lost underwater city of Rapture, we were taken with its foreboding art deco style and deliciously creepy characters. Still, nothing could have prepared us for the riveting tale of misguided power and moral ambiguity that waited within its leaky walls. To save or to harvest - that was Bioshock's question, and there was really no right answer (though we'd heartily recommend 'harvest'). Complementing its ethical quandaries was its compelling, flexible gameplay, allowing gamers to come up with tactical solutions on the fly by using a crafty assortment of guns and abilities. In a world of hackneyed shooters, Bioshock stands out as a glistening example of what a little creative elbow grease - and an immaculately conceived dystopian nightmare - can achieve.
