
If you close your eyes and grab a random game off the shelf at your local retailer, chances are you'll wind up with an action/adventure. What was once purely the domain of platforming games now serves as a catch-all genre that includes shooters, platformers, role-playing games and every combination of the three. It's gaming's Swiss Army knife, minus that silly plastic toothpick.
With a genre this vague and immense, picking a few winners proved to be a monstrous challenge. But at the end of a tight, brutal voting process, three titles stood out far enough from the pack to claim top honors.

Assassin's Creed
This much-ballyhooed third-person killer from Ubisoft snuck into the top three thanks to its incredible engine and fantastic feel.
