Celebrity Byte: Zach Levi

Zach Levi is about to become a star. The actor plays geeky retail clerk Chuck Bartowski, the lead new action comedy spy show, "Chuck," which airs Mondays at 8 p.m.

Levi, like his character Chuck, is a big gamer. Gears of War makes a cameo in the show's pilot, and the actor said there will be more game references to come. Levi took some time to talk about his extensive gaming skills in this exclusive interview.

Can you talk about what kind of games you played early on and what got you interested in video games?

Talk about video games? I could do that for days. I think the first system I owned was just an NES and Super Mario Brothers, ExciteBike and you name it, I had it or I was trying to get it at some point. I was begging the parents. From there I got a Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64, and I think I put video games down for a minute because I played a lot of video games. Then when the Xbox came out I saw some friends with Xbox and they were playing Halo. I was such a huge fan of Goldeneye for N64 and I hadn't seen any good first-person shooters until Halo came out. When I saw how fun Halo was I got an Xbox and Halo, and I've been plugged back into the system ever since.

Were there any other games outside of Goldeneye and the early Marios that you really liked?

Do I need to count? Altered Beast, Streets of Rage, Toe Jam & Earl, and Golden Axe for the Genesis, Golden Axe, for regular Nintendo there was Zelda, Double Dragon and Ninja Gaiden and for Super Nintendo obviously Super Mario Kart and F-Zero.

Where do you keep your consoles today?

I've got an Xbox 360 at work, and I've got one in my room, my living room and the whole house is wired for System Link. I have a LAN system set up at my house. We'll do that with Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Gears of War. We'll have eight guys. I'll have four TVs and four Xbox 360s going, at least, and then we'll do two players a piece on those four TVs. My goal is to have eight TVs and eight Xbox 360s so we'll all have our own screen. A buddy of mine is an electrician and I had him come down and wire my whole house and garage, so every room has Ethernet so they all come back into my switch. That was the whole dream--to have a TV in every room so we could have big system link parties and just kick each other's asses.

I don't know how to pace myself with a video game. I just play it until I beat it or go into a coma. One way or the other someone's going down.

Do you have anything planned for the Halo 3 launch?

Oh, most definitely. I'm a Halo junkie. I did really like Halo 2, I just found it to be not what I was hoping it to be. I really wanted to keep the weapons that I really loved, play on Earth, and keep that fun factor that I found wonderful to have in the first game. Of course I'm going to get Halo 3. Of course I'm going to dive into that and not have a life. That's my problem. I don't know how to pace myself with a video game. I just play it until I beat it or go into a coma. One way or the other someone's going down.
